Only One China [December 2019]: In my final paper for a modern Chinese history course, I explore the historical background and modern relevance of tensions in the relationship between China and Taiwan.
Chinese-American Female Youth Identity, Mental Health, and Psychology: Contemporary Problems and Solutions [May 2020]: For an introductory Asian-American studies course, I wrote a critical thinking paper in which I examine factors shaping the mental health of Chinese-American female youth (ages 15-24). This specific population faces unique circumstances and mental health needs due to intersectional and cross-cultural pressures, including decades-old stereotypes, issues with cultural adaptation, conflicting values, and expectations of women. Furthermore, I propose possible strategies and solutions that the current mental healthcare system can implement in order to better serve this population. College in the Time of COVID-19: An Ethical Perspective [June 2020]: For the purposes of this ethics paper, I address the ethical issues involved in Santa Clara University’s decisions regarding fall quarter given the pandemic. This paper applies a variety of moral philosophical perspectives to analyze three main ethical issues that SCU should consider when moving forward. Why You Need Empathy in the Workplace [August 2021]: During my internship with Sisu VR, I wrote this Medium article about the differences between empathy, sympathy, and compassion, which are often used interchangeably. I also address the importance of empathy in the workplace, and explain why current workplace training methods do not sufficiently promote empathy. A proposal to combat unconscious bias using VR [October 2021]: I led a team of 5 of my colleagues at Sisu VR to write this white paper about using virtual reality as a bias mitigation tool. We presented our paper at the IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society (ISTAS) Conference in October 2021. Life's greatest secret... Cultivating mindfulness results in gratitude, which has benefits that extend from physical and mental health to improving workplace culture. I offer suggestions for ways we can incorporate gratitude in our daily lives for a more productive and fulfilling new year. |
